Overview The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for providing rehabilitative care, occupational therapy services for home health patients needing assistance and training in ambulation, transferring, gait training and home exercise programs. This position works under the supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist in accordance with the Home Health Plan of Care. Shift: PRN Responsibilities Performs occupational therapy procedures in the patient's home. Assists the Occupational Therapist in the evaluation process through observation and/or clinically derived surveys in areas including development of perceptual motor skills, motor coordination and sensory motor development and processing. Assists Occupational Therapist in developing a treatment program aimed at improving the identified areas of function. Instructs and assists patients in learning and improving functional activities. Teaches basic principles of body mechanics to patients and families. Instructs patients and family members on the proper use of prosthetic devices and in the use and care of therapeutic appliances. Observes patient's progress and response to treatment and reports findings to the Occupational Therapist. Reports changes in the patient's condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist. Modifies Plan of Treatment, as authorized by the physician, after subsequent authorization, instruction and supervision by the Occupational Therapist. Prepares and submits clinical and progress notes in a timely manner and in accordance with Otterbein Home Health policies, state and federal guidelines and regulations. Qualifications Education - must be a graduate of an Occupational Therapy Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. (AOTA) or its successor organizations. Experience - minimum of two years' experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant with community/home health experience preferred. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Must be certified by the American Occupational Therapy Association as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. Must possess current license to practice as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant from the State of Ohio or made application for same. Is eligible to take or successfully completed the entry-level certification examination for Occupational Therapy Assistants developed and administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT) Valid driver's license and reliable transportation that is insured in accordance with Ohio requirements. Maintains current CPR certification.
