Building Engineer (HVAC) Position Summary The Building Engineer is responsible for operational functionality, safety, and maintenance of assigned buildings on campus, ensuring that all systems run efficiently and meet safety regulations. Campus consists of 9 complex buildings which total over 220,000 square feet of facilities. Some spaces will be occupied 24/7 by Veterans when classes are in session, as well as dogs in training. This is a salaried position that requires flexibility. Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position; it may require irregular hours and on-call needs to accommodate unforeseen maintenance demands outside of regular hours. Attendance at events and other functions, and/or emergencies may require longer hours or evening work. During work, the employee is expected to be physically present at the office. Key Responsibilities Manage the maintenance staff Facilitate the maintenance and repairs of building equipment and systems, specializing in HVAC/refrigeration with a basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing. Coordination and oversight of installation of new equipment as needed. negotiation with maintenance vendors. Responsible for overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of assigned buildings. Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance to identify and address issues before they become major problems. Write preventative maintenance schedules and protocols for assigned buildings. Respond quickly to building emergencies and determine the best course of action to resolve the issue. Coordinate with contractors and vendors to schedule repairs or installations as needed. Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repair work on assigned buildings within organizational software MaintainX. Inspect and monitor building systems to ensure compliance with organizational standards and local, state, and federal regulations. Troubleshoot and diagnose complex problems with building management systems (BMS) and equipment. Interacting and inspecting software and building efficiency daily. Supervise, manage, and coach maintenance staff Critical thinking with a systematic approach to resolving issues. Proven record of successful time management Works closely with other department heads. Position Requirements, Skills & Qualifications Candidates must successfully pass a background check, possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Requires the ability to prioritize duties and to perform multiple tasks with a high degree of attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. The position requires excellent organizational skills. Requires the ability to be self-disciplined and self-motivated. Requires the ability to be physically active during the entire shift which will include lifting, bending, standing, walking, climbing ladders, etc. Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs or more and work at a fast pace. The position will also require sitting in vehicles and equipment for extended periods. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Attention to small and large details Proficiency in office software (Microsoft Office). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Indoor and outdoor work will be required during all months of the year in all weather conditions. Work at heights on ladders and rooftops. Work in confined spaces. Occasionally requires travel to and from facility for various supply runs and errands. This position requires work with power tools (pressure washers, saws, drills and more) and hand tools (shovels, brooms, mops and more). Company vehicles including UTV’s. In accordance with safety-sensitive position standards, Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Salary range: $110,000 - $140,000
