Assistant City Attorney Full-time/Regular, Exempt Salary Range: $93,600 – $111,300 Pay and level will be determined commensurate with experience and qualifications. Career ladder includes Assistant City Attorney I, II, and III levels. Comprehensive benefit package included.
Nestled at the base of the beautiful Oquirrh Mountains, Tooele City is located 30 minutes west of Salt Lake City. We are seeking a knowledgeable attorney to join our team. This position includes handling misdemeanor prosecutions and supporting civil matters for the City. The position may be filled at the I, II, or III level depending on experience and qualifications. Key Responsibilities: Prosecute misdemeanor cases on behalf of Tooele City.
Prepare and review legal documents, conduct legal research, and appear in assigned proceedings.
Provide legal advice and written opinions to City officials and departments.
Draft and revise ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and policies.
As assigned, attend public meetings and advise on municipal law, zoning, land use, and related matters.
Minimum Qualifications: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school,
Active member in good standing of the Utah State Bar,
Relevant legal experience ranging from entry-level to senior-level will be considered,
Experience in municipal law and misdemeanor prosecution is preferred,
Strong knowledge of both civil and criminal law is preferred,
Effective legal research, writing, and courtroom advocacy skills,
Ability to work collaboratively with public officials, law enforcement, and community stakeholders,
Demonstrated professional judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage a diverse and evolving caseload.
