Assistant/Associate Professor - Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the College of Engineering (CoEgr) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has a term faculty (non-tenure-track) opening at rank of assistant or associate professor. VCU is a premier research and teaching university situated in Virginia's capital city. The VCU ECE Department has bachelor's degrees in both Electrical and Computer Engineering, and master's and doctoral programs, and currently has 19 tenure-track, tenured and term faculty members. The Department has strong relationships with local industry, including Dominion Energy, as well as others. This is a teaching-intensive, full-time (9-month) position renewable annually. Teaching responsibilities will be in the area of Power Systems Engineering. This includes, but is not limited to, courses in power systems analysis, electric energy transmission and distribution, power system protection, power electronics, and electric machines. Most of these courses will be at the undergraduate junior or senior level, but some may be at the beginning graduate/undergraduate level. In addition, there will be an occasional need to teach basic sophomore and junior level electrical engineering courses such as electric circuits, communications, or circuits and systems. Other responsibilities will include course and curriculum development, advising students, and serving on committees. Faculty members are expected to provide high quality instruction and to develop new courses as necessary.

Required qualifications: A Ph.D. in electrical engineering with a background in power system engineering. Demonstrated ability to teach electrical engineering courses at the undergraduate level. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience teaching courses in power engineering at the undergraduate and graduate level is desired. Previous experience in developing undergraduate courses in this area is valuable as is previous experience in the power industry.
