Position Title: Assistant Baseball Coach. Department: Athletics. Classification: Exempt. FTE: 0.50 Work Schedule: This position is a full-time position that serves the athletic department. It requires a flexible work schedule; nights and weekends are necessary, and traveling with teams is required. Salary: $22,500.
Position Overview:
The St. Olaf Athletic Department is in search of a talented and hardworking assistant coach to become a member of our baseball program. This position is a part-time role within the athletic department. It requires a flexible work schedule; nights and weekends are necessary, and traveling with the team is required.
Essential Job Duties: Direct, organize and administer all aspects of the instruction, practice planning and advisement of a position group. Assist head coach with implementing training programs/practice plans. Provide quality coaching and instruction to student-athletes during pre-season, in-season practices, and competitions. Mentor student-athletes to promote athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth. Attend all games and assist with game strategies. Assist with travel arrangements, fundraising activities, home game management, and equipment issue/return/care. Attend athletic department staff meetings and program staff meetings.
Actively recruit qualified student-athletes. Execute a recruiting plan with the head coach that targets a diverse group of potential student-athletes that can achieve high levels of success academically, socially and athletically. Execute the recruiting plan by attending opportunities to evaluate potential student athletes regularly, maintain consistent effective honest communication with potential student athletes, maintain contact with high school and junior/club coaches, as well as parents. Coordinate campus visits and participate in those visits.
Assist with opponent scouting. Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community. Comply with all NCAA Division III, MIAC, and St. Olaf Bylaws. Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle. Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach or athletic department.
Supervision Received and Exercised: Reports to the Head Coach / Athletic Director This position does not supervise staff or students.
Required Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree. Experience: 1+ year of high school or college coaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Education: Master's Degree. Experience: 3+ years of college coaching experience.
Prerequisites: Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check which may include: criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, a motor vehicle check, verification of DOT certification, a credit check, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical. Whether a background check is deemed successfully completed will be at the sole discretion of St. Olaf College.
