Job Description
About the Role
We are a technology-forward law firm seeking a hands-on AI & Automation Developer to design, build, and deploy intelligent automation solutions that enhance both internal operations and client-facing services. You will work across the full lifecycle, from solution design and integration to deployment and maintenance, using Python, Node.js, and other modern frameworks relevant to AI and automation development.
This role requires daily use of AI tools not only in the solutions you create (e.g., AI agents, LLM integrations) but also to augment your own development process, accelerating coding, documentation, testing, and troubleshooting. You will leverage platforms like n8n, Microsoft Azure services, and AI frameworks to deliver secure solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and client experience. This position reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and plays a key role in shaping the firm’s AI and automation strategy.
The Ideal Candidate
You are a builder at heart, capable of taking a concept from whiteboard to production, and you use AI daily to work smarter and faster without sacrificing quality. You balance speed with security, ensuring that every solution is robust, compliant, and scalable. You thrive in environments where you can experiment, learn, and deliver high-impact automation solutions that transform workflows.
Location: Flexible (remote, hybrid, or on-site) with occasional in-person collaboration as needed.
Responsibilities
Build and maintain AI-powered workflows, process automations, intelligent agents, and document ingestion pipelines (RAG) using Python, Node.js, FastAPI, TypeScript, React/Next.js, and tools like Apache Tika or Docling; implement chunking, embeddings, and vector database indexing.
Develop secure API integrations (REST/GraphQL) with internal and third-party systems; create automation pipelines using no/low-code platforms such as n8n.
Rapidly prototype AI-driven MVPs to validate concepts before full-scale deployment.
Design, test, and maintain prompt pipelines, including versioning and performance evaluation.
Use AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to enhance development, testing, and documentation.
Collaborate with stakeholders to identify AI/automation opportunities, define requirements, and design secure, scalable solutions.
Apply HIPAA-aligned security practices, encryption, authentication, audit logging, and risk assessments.
Monitor AI systems for bias and compliance with emerging AI governance standards.
Implement observability tools (Azure Monitor, Application Insights) to ensure system reliability.
Write and maintain automated tests with AI-assisted test generation; ensure robust error handling.
Maintain documentation, version control, and CI/CD pipelines; stay current on emerging AI/automation technologies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
3+ years software development experience, including 1+ year of daily AI/automation work (AI agents, LLM APIs, workflow automation).
Strong proficiency with Python and Node.js; experience with FastAPI, TypeScript, and React/Next.js a plus.
Proven ability to design, deploy, and manage AI/automation solutions in Microsoft Azure environments, following best practices.
Proficiency with REST/GraphQL APIs, authentication, rate limiting, and error handling.
Experience with AI libraries/tools (Pydantic AI, LangGraph, LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google).
Experience with document ingestion and parsing tools (Apache Tika, Docling) in RAG pipelines, including chunking, embeddings, and vector database integration (Pinecone, Weaviate, Azure Cognitive Search).
Experience with no/low-code automation tools (n8n, Power Automate, Zapier).
Skills in prompt engineering, including design, A/B testing, and version control.
Experience with secure coding practices, API security, and HIPAA-regulated environments preferred.
Awareness of ethical AI principles and potential bias in generative models.
Experience with automated testing frameworks (pytest, Jest) and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools for cloud-based applications.
Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, including training non-technical teams on AI adoption.
