Overview Our client is a globally recognized life sciences investment fund with over $3bn in assets under management and a consistent track record of high profile exits across biotechnology, biopharma, and therapeutics. Following a recent $1bn+ fundraise, the firm is expanding its investment team internationally and is looking to establish a long term, on the ground presence in China. This role is intended to anchor and ultimately lead the firm’s China investment platform. While initial integration may occur outside of China, r elocation to China in the near to medium term is mandatory. The successful candidate will work closely with the Managing Partner, with the long term mandate to build and scale a China platform with full ownership, discretion, and strategic responsibility. Over time, this platform is expected to grow into a $1bn+ investment effort.
Investment Mandate The role offers a broad and flexible mandate, with the ability to invest across: Venture and post venture stages Public and crossover opportunities High impact therapies, biotechnology, and biopharma
Responsibilities End to end ownership of the investment process including sourcing, technical and commercial diligence, investment thesis development, deal structuring and negotiation, and active portfolio management Deep coverage of the Chinese biotechnology and life sciences ecosystem, including scientific, clinical, regulatory, and competitive developments Active relationship building with founders, management teams, KOLs, academics, and industry stakeholders in China Acting as an ambassador for the firm through conferences, industry events, and strategic partnerships Board participation and hands on strategic support for portfolio companies Close collaboration with the global investment team while laying the foundation for a scaled China operation
Qualifications MD or PhD required, with the ability to rigorously evaluate scientific and clinical data 2 to 6 years of experience in life sciences investing with meaningful exposure to the Chinese market Strong analytical judgment across private and public investments Demonstrated passion and intellectual curiosity for healthcare innovation Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across cultures and seniority levels Fluency in Mandarin required; strong reading and writing proficiency strongly preferred Willingness and commitment to relocate to China, either immediately or on an agreed timeline, is a firm requirement
