The Brookline Public Schools are seeking an experienced, energetic, and collaborative teacher, who has experience in teaching Biology and Chemistry. There is a possibility that this position includes teaching AP Biology. This position is an open position, either at 0.8 FTE or 1.0 FTE.
At Brookline High, Physics is taught in 9th grade, Chemistry in 10th grade, and then Biology in 11th. Additionally, since Biology is taught after Chemistry, it is taught with much more rigor and with more biochemistry than it would be possible in 9th grade, therefore the teacher will need a strong background in molecular biology.
Duties include but are not limited to: Teaching four classes: two sections of AP Biology or Biology I Honor and two sections of Chemistry I Demonstrating appropriate long and short term preparation for classroom instruction Organizing and using a variety of effective teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technologies to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings Continuously assessing student progress, providing students and parents with specific feedback, and using the results to adjust instruction as needed Providing opportunities for academic support and challenge Keeping current in the fields of Biology & Chemistry and in innovative teaching strategies and learning research Collaborating with colleagues to examine student data, planning curriculum, and ensuring appropriate learning experiences for all students Establishing and maintaining a functional, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community Requirements/Qualifications: Well-developed understanding of Biology & Chemistry and the pedagogy required to effectively teach those subjects A thorough understanding of biological and chemical safety and chemical waste protocols Thorough knowledge of how diverse learners acquire and develop an understanding of science Excellent classroom management skills Ability to reflect on personal learning through the analysis of one's teaching practice, student learning data, and the teaching practices of others Ability to be open to constructive critique of supervisors, administrators and colleagues Ability to collaborate with all faculty Bachelor's Degree Massachusetts DESE certification in Biology 9-12 and Chemistry 9-12 SEI Endorsement Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree 2-3 years of experience in teaching Biology and Chemistry Experience teaching AP Biology The Public Schools of Brookline is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the PSB community through their teaching practice.
