Job Description
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled tasks in the operations and maintenance of water distribution and treatment systems, and wastewater collection and treatment systems.
Performs routine servicing and corrective maintenance of water and wastewater systems.
Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during other course of work.
Cleans vehicles, heavy equipment, barscreens, comminutors, weirs, drying beds, digesters, pumps, tools, and other stationary and portable equipment.
Performs routine inspection of vehicles and equipment; performs minor maintenance and lubrication of machinery such as changing oil and greasing equipment.
Maintains grounds and buildings: cuts grass, weeds, and brush; trims trees and bushes; rakes grass, leaves and.
Trash, seeds and cares for lawns and ornamental plantings.
Operates and maintains vehicles, equipment and tools required to load, unload, haul, and spread sand, gravel, dirt and/or waste products (sludge, product waste, packaging waste, etc); digs and refills ditches and trenches.
Carries or holds materials, supplies, and tools to assist operations and maintenance personnel.
Maintains records to accurately reflect pounds of materials hauled by private contractors or applied to agricultural lands.
Performs other duties as required.
Work Environment:
Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
High School Diploma/GED is required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Basic knowledge in the operation and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, farm machinery, pumps and equipment used in and around water and wastewater systems.
Familiarity with hand and power tools and equipment commonly used in the maintenance of vehicles, equipment, structures, and buildings.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
Clean, valid Driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds from floor to waist level. Items lifted are often bulky and difficult to handle.
Must be able to climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold and climb into vehicles having high ground clearance.
Must be able to push a push-type, power lawn mower for up to 3 hours a day.
Must be able to walk up to 3 miles per 8-hour shift.
Must be able to dig and backfill a ditch.
Must be able to ascend and descend up to 1,000 steps in an 8-hour shift.
Must be able to carry a 50-pound tool box, up a flight of stairs.
Must be able to work in constricted places.
