Job Title: Histologic Technician Profession: Histo Tech Specialty: Pathology Duration: 39 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required, 3 years preferred License: Must be a certified Histologic Technician (HT ASCP) or Histotechnologist (HTL ASCP) Certifications: ASCP required Must-Have: Certified Histologic Technician (HT ASCP) or Histotechnologist (HTL ASCP) Description: The Histologist consistently provides excellent customer service to patients and customers of the laboratory. Works closely with coworkers to meet the needs of physicians, nurses, and patients. Responsible for cytological and histological tissue preparations for examination by the Pathologist. Accurately and quickly performs a variety of duties within the Histology department, including microtomy, special staining, filing and tracking slides, and accessioning. Utilizes equipment such as Soft Path, Vantage, Roche Benchmark special stainers, HE600 stainers, and Leica Microtomes. No floating to other departments is required for this position. There is no requirement for on-call duty, weekends, or holidays. Start times for shifts can range from 2 AM to 5 AM. The dress code includes navy blue scrubs that are clean and kept tidy, with hair pulled back if it touches the shoulders. The employee will not work alone.
