Job Description
Purpose of Position:
Under general direction, with considerable latitude for independent decision making, is responsible for a unit engaged in housekeeping activities in a health care setting center or in a health care setting with a housekeeping
program of equivalent size or scope. Performs related work.
Examples of Typical Tasks: 1. Directs and administers the housekeeping program to maintain the health care setting premises in a clean
and orderly fashion. 2. Establishes standards and work methods and schedules visiting hours and work to be completed. 3. Formulates plans for improving housekeeping programs, and evaluates the effectiveness of the program. 4. Studies new cleaning methods, equipment and supplies and requisitions experimental quantities. 5. Makes revisions to new methods and techniques and incorporates into housekeeping activities. 6. Is responsible for maintenance of housekeeping standards to ensure compliance with infection control. 7. Makes inspections to determine if cleanliness standards are being maintained. 8. Maintains liaison with professional, administrative and security staff and with union representatives. 9. May formulate plans and direct training programs for subordinate employees. 10. Counsels and interviews employees. 11. May be responsible for the distribution and control of linen. 12. Maintains all appropriate records, and keeps logs of all findings on daily rounds. 13. Maintains cleaning equipment in good and working condition.
Minimum Qualifications 1. Six (6) months of experience as a Senior Housekeeper or as a lead or supervising housekeeper for a large organization, such as a hospital, hotel, office or residential building; and 2. Successful completion of the NYC Health + Hospitals Supervisory Training within three (3) months of appointment.
