Position Overview
The Student Grader will support faculty by accurately and efficiently grading homework assignments for designated mathematics courses. This role requires a strong understanding of course material, as solution keys are not typically provided. Ideal candidates will have previously completed the course they are grading with a grade of A or B and must be capable of independently solving assigned problems. A solid foundation in undergraduate mathematics is essential, including successful completion of at least one Calculus course. Graders must demonstrate attention to detail, consistency, and the ability to provide timely and fair evaluation of student work. Job Description 100% – Grading Homework Assignments via Canvas Review and evaluate student homework submissions for assigned mathematics courses using the Canvas learning management system. Apply consistent grading practices based on instructor guidelines and the course’s grading rubric. Provide clear, constructive feedback where appropriate to support student learning. Ensure grades are entered accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain confidentiality of student information and academic performance in accordance with FERPA guidelines. Required Qualifications Demonstrated experience completing complex homework assignments independently, without reliance on provided solution keys (, prior success in upper-level math courses or independent coursework). Proven ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills, as evidenced by high academic performance in mathematics courses (grade of A or B), and consistent accuracy in quantitative work or prior grading/tutoring roles. Preferred Qualifications A solid foundation in undergraduate-level mathematics, demonstrated through successful completion of multiple advanced math courses (, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations). Position Requirements During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments). Employment Conditions (1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
