Special Education Paraprofessional - 7 hours per day

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at Harrison Elementary School as a Special Education Paraeducator. This full-time position is designed for someone who is committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs in a positive and inclusive environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff to facilitate the educational and social development of students with disabilities, ensuring they have access to meaningful learning experiences. This position does work 7 hours per day.
Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students during academic activities and social interactions.
- Help students develop essential life skills, including communication, self-regulation, and socialization.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement in classroom activities.
- Support students during transitions between classes, lunch, and recess to ensure a smooth and safe experience.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to all school policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or school administration.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Requires two years of college, an AA degree, or successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow directions from teachers and other professionals.
Basic knowledge of special education laws, IEPs, and instructional strategies is a plus.
Proficiency in basic computer skills and the ability to use educational software and tools.
Flexibility to adapt to changing student needs and classroom environments.
Must pass background checks and comply with all school district requirements.
This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law.
