We are seeking a highly skilled Shop Mechanic to join the team. The ideal candidate would inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered vehicles, small equipment, trucks, forklifts, and trailers. The Mechanic's main responsibilities include running diagnostic tests on vehicles, replacing the vehicles' engines, transmission, steering mechanics, brake systems, etc., and test driving the vehicle to determine if all repair issues have been completed.
*Essential job function:*
* Daily review of incoming service repair orders
* Examine fuel regulators, emission controls system and timing systems to ensure all are in good repair
* Check batteries, lubricate parts and change oil as needed to prevent engine failure
* Inspect hydraulic systems, brakes, suspensions, transmissions, mechanical and electrical components
* Perform needed repairs in compliance with DOT regulations
* Records services and repairs to maintain accurate vehicle records
* Follows operating instructions, troubleshoots breakdowns, maintains supplies and helps to keep shop equipment operational.
* Notifies Shop Supervisor when inventory stock is low
* Escalates shop equipment repair issues to Shop Supervisor
* Perform 90-day DOT inspections on vehicles
* Ability to travel to various job sites perform repairs as needed
* Perform preventative maintenance (PM's) as needed
* Perform repairs on air-brakes
* Perform maintenance and repairs on small engines
* Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues
* Work on 2 & 4 cycle engines
* Handle light construction equipment, including portable generators
* Equipment Inspections and prepping rental orders
* Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop.
* Other duties as assigned.
*Experience:*
* High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
* Vocational training in Diesel Mechanics or equivalent experience
* In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms
* Keen attention to detail
* Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment
* 3 years prior experience as a diesel mechanic
* Valid California Driver's license with air brake endorsement
* Ability to operate forklift, hand truck, pallet jack and other equipment safely
* Adequate knowledge of DOT inspections
* Prior welding experience a plus
* Ability to operate MIG, stick welder and cutting torch.
* Basic computer skills required
*Requirements:*
* Clean DMV record and valid driver license
* Ability to pass a drug/alcohol screen and background check
* 1-3 years' experience in a similar position
* Must provide your own tools
* Excellent communication skills
* High school diploma or equivalent preferred
