JOB FUNCTION: This position is primarily responsible for providing broad legal support across MPW’s operational and support functions, with a core emphasis on litigation, dispute resolution, and employment law. The successful candidate will be a pragmatic legal generalist who can manage outside counsel, advise internal clients, and contribute to compliance-related initiatives across the enterprise. This role also includes policy review, internal investigations in preparation for litigation, managing discovery, compliance advice & audit design, and the opportunity to support limited transactional and M&A activities. While not a primary focus, the Legal Counsel may be asked to assist with contract processes and standard commercial tools as needed, in collaboration with the contracts team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee and coordinate litigation matters, working closely with outside counsel and internal stakeholders to control strategy and cost. This includes workers’ compensation and vehicle claims in line with MPW’s defense and risk strategy. Provide legal counsel on a range of employment matters, including FMLA, ADA, workplace investigations, and compliance issues. Draft and review legal policies, guidance documents, and internal communications; create and deliver training content intended for operations groups. Support the business in resolving commercial disputes, customer/vendor claims, and pre-litigation negotiations. Conduct legal research and deliver actionable, business-aligned recommendations. Participate in internal compliance reviews, policy updates, and regulatory training development. Serve as backup or collaborator on legal process initiatives related to contracts, insurance, or M&A as business needs dictate. Build relationships with business leaders across MPW’s diverse operations to promote early legal issue spotting and consistent risk mitigation.

QUALIFICATIONS: JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law. 5–8 years of relevant legal experience, ideally including both litigation and employment law exposure. Open to less or more experience, with compensation range adjustments applied accordingly. In-house experience preferred but not required. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to tailor legal advice to business stakeholders. Comfortable managing multiple priorities with limited supervision in a dynamic, operationally driven environment. Transactional and M&A experience helpful but not required.
