About the Role

Midwest Dairy is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and collaborative accounting professional to serve in the role of Senior Accountant. Qualified individuals should have at least five years of progressive experience in accounting, with a strong background in general ledger management, cash flow oversight, and compliance reporting. This position is based in our St. Paul, MN office and is a hybrid role. Must be able to be in the St. Paul, MN location 2-3 times per week.

In this role, you would be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial data across multiple entities. Youll lead daily cash management activities, prepare and analyze financial reports, support budgeting and audit processes, and act as a financial resource to program staff, all while contributing to a finance function that is continuously improving and evolving. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of GAAP, strong problem-solving skills, and experience working within a shared services or nonprofit environment. This individual must be comfortable working independently, juggling multiple priorities, and supporting process improvements in a dynamic, mission-driven organization.

This role is designed with growth in mind and may evolve as the organizations systems, tools, or structures continue to modernize.

Principal Position Responsibilities

• Lead daily and strategic cash flow management, including forecasting and investment activity.
• Manage general ledger operations, account reconciliations, and monthly close processes.
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and compliance reports.
• Support financial aspects of program activity, including event tracking and partner invoicing.
• Assist in developing and monitoring annual budgets for assigned entities.
• Coordinate audit preparation and support tax filings, including Form 990, sales tax, and property tax.
• Maintain documentation related to fixed assets, inventory, and interest income.
• Contribute to process improvements and support future system enhancements across the finance function.

Education and Experience:

A bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required for this position. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit, shared services, or multi-entity environment. Experience should include hands-on involvement with general ledger management, account reconciliations, financial reporting and audit preparation. Demonstrated experience in cash management or treasury functions is highly valuable, as is exposure to budgeting processes and compliance-related filings. Familiarity with accounting systems and financial software is essential, and experience supporting cross-functional teams or contributing to system improvements is a strong asset. A CPA designation is not required but may be considered a plus.

Knowledge:

The Senior Accountant should possess a strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), particularly as they apply in a nonprofit and multi-entity environment. A solid understanding of treasury functions, including cash flow forecasting, daily cash positioning, and short-term investment strategies, is essential. The role also requires familiarity with audit preparation, regulatory filings, and compliance requirements such as Form 990, sales tax, and property tax. Knowledge of internal controls and best practices related to financial risk and segregation of duties is important for maintaining integrity in financial operations. Proficiency in accounting systems and reporting tools is expected, with experience in ERP or integrated financial platforms considered a plus. The Senior Accountant should also understand budget development, variance analysis, and financial planning processes. Experience supporting program-based or event-driven financial activities, including invoicing and cost tracking, is beneficial. Additionally, the ideal candidate brings awareness of accounting process improvement and system automation trends, contributing to a forward-looking finance function.

Salary: $80,000-$95,000
