** This position will serve in the Outreach Department and assist with setting up our mobile libraries. Mobile libraries are satellite library sites that offer the same services as our main location in smaller cities in Scott County. Tasks would include driving a truck and trailer, moving mobile shelving, setting up equipment, and providing full library services such as reference, computer aid, circulation, programs, etc. The selected individual will also work in the main library on weekends and may assist with other outreach stops. ***
Under the direction of the Outreach Manager, the Outreach Library Assistant is responsible for providing access to the librarys materials and services, mostly outside the library, at community events, with library partners, and at other library functions.
Essential Duties:
Provides library services both on-site and at off-site locations.
Assists in driving the bookmobile and other library vehicles to various locations in Scott County.
Assists in stocking shelves in the bookmobile and other library vehicles with appropriate books and materials consistent with seasonal schedules and routes.
Assists in keeping library vehicles in good, clean working condition.
Assists with setting up outreach sites/booths.
Develops and conducts outreach programs.
Maintains and organizes the outreach office and items for events.
Maintains weekly statistics.
Attends community events and gives presentations about library services and resources to audiences of all ages.
Provides backup for other outreach staff duties.
Attends all staff and department meetings as scheduled.
Answerspatrons requests in person and by phone using print and non-print resources.
Works all Public Service Desks as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Expected Hours of Work:
Must work an average of 20.0 hours a week. On-site attendance, evenings, and weekends required.
Will work one of the following two non-negotiable work schedules:
Sundays 1:00-5:00,Mondays 11:30-8:00, Saturdays 8:30-5:00
Sundays 3:00-7:00, Mondays 4:00-8:00, Tuesdays 11:30-8:00, Saturdays 9:00-1:00
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree preferred.
Library experience preferred.
Valid drivers license and satisfactory driving history.
Ability to obtain KDLA Paraprofessional Certification
Spanish speaking strongly preferred.
Required Skills:

Ability to help older and/or limited mobility patrons onto the bookmobile.

Proficiency in using MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Physical Demands
Moving up to 50lbs. carts and handling moderately heavy boxes of books when the occasion requires.
Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, type, pick, pinch, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
Movement through facility locations and assisting patrons.
Ability to handle books, materials, and equipment.
Ability to reach above the head and below the knee to retrieve shelved items.
Visual acuity sufficient to identify materials on shelving up to 90 and to read primarily typed or printed text in a variety of type sizes.
Work Environment
Climate-controlled environment inside the building and inside the library vehicle and seasonal conditions outside the building
Limited access to restroom facilities when driving a library vehicle.
On the road, 70-75% of work time.
