This is a high-impact, newly created role with the opportunity to shape a culture of safety excellence across our operations.
JOB SUMMARY:
As the Director of Safety and Compliance, you will play a critical role in ensuring our drivers and equipment operate safely and in full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. You will collaborate closely with operations teams, oversee safety programs and initiatives, and lead compliance efforts that position Trans Services as a national leader in transportation safety. We are in Spring Hill, KS and need someone on-site at this location.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensure compliance with all applicable DOT, FMCSA, and local, state, and federal regulations. Lead the onboarding process for new drivers, including background checks, drug testing, and document management. Manage monthly random DOT drug and alcohol testing. Oversee telematics programs, including ELDs, hours of service, and Netradyne camera systems. Foster a proactive safety culture by recognizing safe behavior and providing coaching for unsafe practices. Conduct thorough incident investigations and root cause analyses. Monitor and analyze safety data to identify trends and implement improvements. Maintain accurate driver qualification files and ensure compliance with DOT regulations. Perform regular safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments. Oversee the vehicle maintenance coordination to ensure fleet readiness and compliance. Manage and track workers compensation claims within your area of responsibility. Ensure prompt reporting and resolution of claims, accidents, and incidents. Ensure adherence to cargo security protocols and damage prevention measures. Deliver effective, ongoing safety training programs for drivers and staff. Recruit, hire, and onboard drivers in collaboration with leadership. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 5 years in a safety leadership role within the transportation or logistics industry. Strong working knowledge of FMCSA, DOT regulations, and best practices in transportation safety. Familiarity with intermodal drayage operations preferred. Experience with telematics systems, including ELDs and safety cameras. Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or Certified Transportation Safety Professional (CTSP) preferred. Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities. Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This position operates in a dynamic, fast-paced, professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, read, hear, sit for extended periods, and use their hands to type and operate a computer.
