Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Retina Technician to join our ophthalmology team. The Retina Technician will assist ophthalmologists and retinal specialists in diagnosing and treating eye conditions related to the retina, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, and other retinal diseases. This position requires a deep understanding of retinal diagnostic procedures, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to work with advanced retinal imaging technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform retinal diagnostic tests and imaging procedures, including OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), fluorescein angiography, and retinal photography.
· Assist in pre-operative and post-operative care for retinal patients.
· Take patient histories and document visual symptoms, medical conditions, and any changes in vision.
· Educate patients on the tests they will undergo, providing clear instructions to ensure the best results.
· Prepare patients for exams, ensuring comfort and proper positioning for various diagnostic procedures.
· Maintain and operate retinal imaging equipment, ensuring all devices are in working order and calibrated correctly.
· Record and organize test results for review by the physician and maintain accurate patient records.
· Support retinal specialists during patient consultations and procedures.
· Assist in maintaining a sterile and organized environment in the clinic and exam rooms.
· Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling patient appointments and following up with patients about results or upcoming treatments.
· Ensure proper patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent required
· Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (COA) or Ophthalmic Medical Technician (OMT) is a plus.
· Previous experience in ophthalmology or retina-focused practices is preferred.
· Proficient with retinal imaging equipment and diagnostic software.
· Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex medical concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.
· Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced medical environment.
· Ability to maintain a calm and caring demeanor when interacting with patients, especially those who may be anxious or experiencing vision-related concerns.
