JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Registered Nurse performs the primary function of an RN in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients in the Wound Healing Center for wound care as well as hyperbaric medicine. The RN Wound Center/Hyperbaric is responsible for meeting the established WHC Standards of Nursing Practice in the management of all assigned patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Registered Nurse Wound Care
· Initiates a nursing assessment of patient’s condition upon admission. Assess and interpret reports communicating findings with assigned physician. Recognize and assess initial alternations in the patient’s body system and verbalize this to other members of the health care team. Organizes and records assessment data in an orderly fashion.
· Assess and measures wounds accurately and in accordance with policy. Photograph wounds according to policy and procedure. Complete in an accurate manner all admission nursing chart forms.
· Assesses compliance to the clinical pathway and be instrumental in bringing to the attention of the physician or health care team missing components.
· Identifies patient care situations that require intervention, implement nursing actions, and evaluate responses. Identify patient/family education and discharge needs and implement a teaching plan of care.
· Documents a plan of care accurately for all assigned patients. Identify the patient’s present and potential problems from the assessment. Determines patient’s health status and incorporate into the plan of care. Collaborates with physician to develop a plan of care based on assessment data. Develops and implements a teaching plan.
· Prioritizes problems according to impact on health status. Formulates desired outcomes specific to patient’s problems and WHC protocols. Ensures desired outcomes that are mutually agreed upon by the patient, family (when appropriate) and the nurse. Formulates desired outcomes that are specific and measurable within a certain time frame and consistent with other health provider’s expectations.
· Identify home health care needs, evaluate support systems, and identify patient teaching needs from admission to discharge. Participate in implementing planned changes and activities to improve care. Assess whether the plan of care is effective with the physician and is instrumental in initialing changes, as necessary.
· Implements wound care and HBO protocols when clinically indicated.
· Assists physician with wound therapy.
· Accurately completes the superbill and ensures that all orders and changes are initiated accurately.
· Coordinates activities with other disciplines (Rehab, Nutrition, Diabetic education, Home Health, DME, nursing homes and other ancillary services).
· Evaluates achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes. In collaboration with the physician and other health care members, revises the plan of care and continuously reassess and evaluate until desired outcome is obtained. Completes the 4-week reviews in a timely manner and ensure all recommendations to the plan are activated in the physician orders.
· Functions as a case manager for a deigned patient population. Coordinates office visits, pre-procedure workups, and patient education with the multidisciplinary team. Foster continuity of care between WHC and caretaker (home, hospital, HH etc.).
Registered Nurse Hyperbaric
· Assists in provision of care of patients.
· Performs clinical functions: hyperbaric oxygen/HBO treatment delivery, dressing changes, and assisting with procedures as ordered by the physician.
· Conducts chamber safety inspections, Class B monoplace chamber daily start-up/shut-down procedures, and Class B monoplace chamber operations (as required).
· Performs nursing assessments.
· Is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing care plans.
· Provides patient education.
· Keeps complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to assessment, treatments, and documentation of care.
· Participates in quality assurance programs.
· Participates in safety program.
If designated role of safety director by clinic leadership the following additional duties/responsibilities apply:
· Is responsible for the safe and effective operation and maintenance of the hyperbaric chamber (s) and relate systems and ancillary components.
· Works closely with facility management personnel and department medical personnel to ensure the highest quality of safety for patients, staff, and visitors.
· Makes the necessary recommendations for departmental safety policies and incorporates new safety procedures, as appropriate.
· Has the authority to restrict or remove any potentially hazardous supply or equipment items from the chamber.
· Provides leadership and safety training to other hyperbaric facility personnel.
· Is responsible for maintaining all facility safety-related standards as required by various licensing and regulatory agencies.
· Serves as one of the hyperbaric facility’s technical trainers for staff and provides routine in-service training related to various aspects of hyperbaric physiology, decompression requirements, equipment operations, safety, and treatment protocols.
· Generates and supervises hyperbaric chamber safety drills that are tailored to improve staff response to emergency mechanical and medical situations.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program.
· Minimum two years RN experience required; ambulatory experience preferred.
· RN licensure for the State of Florida required.
· Have attended or will attend an approved hyperbaric medicine introductory training course within 120 days of hire.
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
· Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
· Epic experience preferred.
· For safety director role only: Attend safety director training course after 1st year and have completed prior to 18 months also must become hyperbaric certified within 24 months of hire.
