Our focus includes understanding biological systems and advancing human health through four grand challenges: Building AI-based virtual cell models Developing advanced imaging systems Instrumenting tissues to understand inflammation Engineering the immune system for early detection and treatment Our work involves grantmaking, open-source software, and collaborations with various research institutions, including the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network. The Opportunity The Principal Data Scientist will lead a team to define and create datasets for a Virtual Cell model, partnering with science, data engineering, and AI research teams to support biological modeling efforts. You will manage data scientists responsible for dataset development, ensuring quality and usability to accelerate research. What You'll Do Manage data scientists to produce high-quality, standardized datasets Establish systems for responsiveness to emerging needs Define data vision and collaborate with cross-functional teams to realize it Identify new data opportunities and oversee their delivery Work with engineers and researchers to deliver datasets for AI models What You'll Bring 10+ years of experience with biological data, including imaging and sequencing Experience delivering large data products with sequencing and imaging components 5+ years managing hybrid/remote teams Expertise in big data handling, statistical reasoning, and machine learning Experience with image and sequence data analysis and pipelines Excellent communication skills Willingness to learn new technologies and domains Compensation The base pay range in Chicago, IL, is $204,850 - $307,700, with actual placement based on experience and skills. Ranges outside Redwood City are adjusted for local cost of living.
