General Statement
Under supervision, performs skilled manual work in connection with the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of water, waste, sewage and drainage pipes, plumbing fixtures and accessories. Essential Job Functions

Performs skilled work in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of potable water, waste, sewage and drainage pipes, plumbing fixtures, valves and appurtenances. Installs, maintains and repairs potable water pipes including supports and meter connections. Installs and repairs waste, sewage and drainage pipes, valves and appurtenances. Bends, cuts, fits, threads, sweats, cements and assembles all types of pipe; makes pipe joints; repairs broken valves, hydrants and service pipes and welds and cuts metals by either gas or electric process. Installs, replaces, maintains and repairs plumbing fixtures and accessories including toilets, lavatories, showers and water fountains. Conducts work in a safe manner and in accordance with established safety rules and practices. Installs and removes sump pumps and repairs related piping, valves and appurtenances. Other Job Functions
Is responsible for the custody and care of all tools of the trade in performing plumbing work. Cleans water and sewer pipes and drains. Takes and records water and gas meter readings. Performs other duties as assigned. Environmental Conditions
May involve exposure to a variety of operating mechanical equipment and loud noise and/or noxious odors. May include working in all types of weather conditions throughout the plant facility and collection system. Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the plumbing trade. Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to work from sketches, blueprints and broken parts. Ability to do oxyacetylene and electric arc welding. Skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment of the plumbing trade. Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and completion of an approved apprentice training program in plumbing work, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Possession of a valid State of Illinois or City of Chicago Plumber’s license. Substitution
Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Promotional Requirement
