Job Summary: The Folder Operator is responsible for reading work orders to provide customers with their printing needs-from business cards, banners, folders, posters, calendars, and mailers to full, multiple component complex projects. Responsibilities Essential Duties: Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to: Understand Bindery and Folder related specifications Read and understand the job ticket and work order Understand customer quality requirements Understand and use proofs in checking cutting attributes
Demonstrate the ability to: Make ready the folder including: Setting gates and paper paths Setting detectors Preparing the paper to infeed properly Achieving rapid size changeovers Setting folder for perforating or scoring Set up and troubleshoot any inconsistencies
Demonstrate the ability to operate the folder at production speeds including: Loading and feeding paper Running folder at high speed Inspecting fold variation Running light and heavy paper weights
Demonstrate skills in inspecting product for quality attributes including: Accurate trim Cover and text printing attributes Excessive marking Hold registers and Quality
Required Skills Qualifications: High school diploma/GED with experience or vocational/technical certification. Minimum of 3 years as Folder Operator, with good record of accuracy in folding operations and producing quality products. Strong interpersonal skills. Able to apply written instructions to machine set-up and maintenance. Possess mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers and fractions. Reliable attendance, punctuality, and attention to workstation. Standing for prolonged periods of time - up to 8 hours or more per day. Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lbs. Work areas may have fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. The noise level is usually moderate to loud. Fast-paced environment subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity. Job Requirements: Consistently demonstrate proficiency and understanding in the use of: Demonstrate skill in folder preventative maintenance Demonstrate understanding of folder production time requirements and company standards Demonstrate understanding of quality limitations and capabilities of the folder Demonstrate proper materials in staging before, during and after operation Standard Operating Procedures Non-conforming material Quality control Possess the ability to work with management to achieve company goals including customer satisfaction and company profitability Demonstrate proficiency in the use of data collection system and display consistency and accuracy in meeting data collection requirements specified in the quality documentation and by management Demonstrate willingness to accept direction from supervisors, management, and peers to improve quality and performance Demonstrate willingness to work with peers and other departments to improve quality and performance.
