To provide in-depth financial advocate services and counseling to the families of all DCH patients and serve as a direct contact for parents with these complex financial needs, billing concerns and work to improve the family's experience. Act in accordance consistent with HIPPA & Fair Collection Practices when interacting with families. Demonstrate appropriate documentation in several systems. Work with team(s) to help prevent negative experiences with billing processes & promote positive experiences within DCH. This is a position requiring excellent customer service, professional phone skills, independent thinking, and advanced insurance/registration techniques. The Patient & Family Financial Advocate will be responsible for collaborating interdepartmentally with Quality Assurance/Utilization review, Admitting Office, Registration and Patient Accounts department. They will comply with notification rules of insurance companies of daily admissions, identifying families needing and providing financial counseling to identify potential third party resources. This may include research and follow-up with parent/legal guardian and insurance companies. Must stay current with third party payer notification process. Responsible for reviewing 100% of all Self-Pay encounters to determine the preferred method of payment, financial assistance for the Inpatient encounter was applied. When needed provide financial assistance to our surgery, outpatient families. Handle escalated customer concerns and take ownership over account issues until resolve is reached while providing communication to all parties involved with the concern. All duties shall be performed in a competent, high quality, timely and cost effective manner in accordance with department procedures or protocols. The Patient & Family Financial Advocate will cross cover other areas as needed.

Education: High School Diploma or GED (required)
Experience (preferred): Patient access, patient accounts or customer service experience
Financial assistant experience
Insurance or registration knowledge
