What You Will Do This position will be filled at either the Nuclear Facilities Field Engineer 3/ Nuclear Facilities Field Engineer 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. Nuclear Facilities Field Engineer 3 $125,200 - $211,300 The Field Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of construction and maintenance projects are executed in full conformance with the Approved Project Documents by monitoring facility maintenance and construction activities. This is accomplished by providing input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout to ensure baseline documents are accurate, design documents are adhered to, and as-built configurations are verified. Field Engineers expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and providing timely guidance to the constructor through approved procedures. At the level 3 position, leadership experience is a requirement. The selected candidate will support our Install team. Demonstrated expertise in reading and understanding engineering design documents, drawings, and specifications to ensure their completeness and constructability.
Demonstrated experience interpreting construction industry specifications, construction means and methods, and national construction codes and standards.
Experience effectively communicating engineering solutions both verbally and in writing for management, customers, peers, and craft personnel.
Demonstrated proficiency in conducting field verifications of construction work to oversee, facilitate, and enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, national codes and standards.
Demonstrated proficiency in collaborative problem solving to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field as the liaison between design engineers and the constructor.
Additional Job Requirements for Field Engineer 4:In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires: Demonstrated expert knowledge of construction engineering principles.
Demonstrated expertise in conducting field verifications of construction work to oversee, facilitate, and enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, national codes and standards.
Demonstrated expertise in collaborative problem solving to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field as the liaison between design engineers and the constructor.
Proven ability to suggest, develop, and implement process improvements.
Demonstrated skills in multi-disciplinary team building and leadership.
Proven leadership experience.
Education Experience for the level 3 Nuclear Facilities Field Engineer: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 6 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable. Education Experience for the level 4 Nuclear Facilities Field Engineer: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 12 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable. Desired Qualifications: Expert organizational skills for field engineering oversight and statusing of multiple simultaneous construction projects.
Experienced in independently leading others in your field in the execution of their duties.
Experienced in working independently on tasks ranging in complexity.
Proven experience mentoring junior Field Engineers and Engineering Technologists in their design review, pre-construction coordination, and construction oversite activities.
Proficiency in reviewing engineering submittals and ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
Advanced design and/or construction experience in nuclear, accelerator, laboratory, or industrial facility operations.
Expert knowledge of: construction work planning and control methods; facility maintenance and installation techniques and construction principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices.
Proficient at reviewing field material purchase requisitions through material take-off, including the review of estimated quantities and ensuring compliance with design specifications and drawings.
Advanced understanding of engineering and construction techniques, applications of engineering and construction methods, and application of technology and tools to conventional facility operation and construction operations.
Experience with design and/or installation of facility and infrastructure systms.
Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular construction discipline.
Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering.
Current registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) is highly desirable
