Job Summary/Description: WNDU is seeking a morning news co-anchor. We are looking for an aggressive co-anchor who is passionate about covering local news and weather. The candidate must be an energetic "morning person" who can give viewers something to look forward to in the mornings. We need someone who can be a co-anchor but also a solo-anchor for several hours when necessary and serve as a co-producer during the overnight hours. We seek an anchor who will be involved in the day-to-day operations of the newsroom, be a leader, and be a researcher who will assist in developing enterprise content.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Collaborating and assisting show producers with the writing of news content
Researching, gathering, shooting, writing, and editing news stories for on-air and online
Completing regular franchise reports
Writing in a clear, concise, conversational manner
Possessing excellent interview and conversational writing/presentation skills
Reporting "live" on the scene during breaking news or weather
Developing and maintaining sources of information
Demonstrating sound news judgment
Enterprising, hard-news, research-driven stories under tight deadlines
Participating in editorial meetings
Attending/hosting/speaking at schools and community events
Posting and regularly updating stories and other material on the web and social media
Interacting with viewers on social media, including a regular presence on Facebook Live
Following clothing and appearance guidelines set by news management
Learning a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and history
Possibly producing and anchoring at least 15-30 minutes a day on OTT
Performing other job-related duties as assigned
Meeting tight deadlines and working well under pressure
Maintaining professional and ethical conduct in the station and in the community
Maintaining a positive work atmosphere
Staying current with national and local news/weather
Qualifications/Requirements:
One (1) year of experience in a newsroom preferred, including anchoring experience
BS/BA in Journalism or communications preferred
Ability to shoot, write, and edit your own stories
Experience with posting stories to the web and social media
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Computer literacy, including newsroom computer systems
Must possess a valid driver's license; A motor vehicle record check is required before hiring
Management has the right to alter assignments as needed
Demonstrate solid writing skills with accuracy and an unbiased manner for digital platforms
