The Marine Service/Outboard Technician uses their knowledge, experience, and skills to maintain, repair and install outboard engines, navigational equipment, operating systems, pumps, electrical and steering systems.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform routine maintenance on boats, including changing oil, checking fluid levels, and inspecting for damage or wear
Carry out various repair and maintenance tasks as dictated by the needs of the vessel
Fill out accurate service records and repair documents
Test marine engines and electrical systems to ensure theyre working properly
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair all mechanical and electrical problems on boat, motors and trailers
Performing repairs on damaged equipment
Inspecting equipment to identify malfunctions or other problems
Cleaning boats and equipment to prevent corrosion or other damage
Maintaining equipment inventories, ordering parts, and tracking repairs
Performing safety inspections to ensure that equipment is in good working order and meets regulatory requirements
Maneuver boats out of the water and onto a trailer
Work safely in a shop and in-water environment, maintain a clean work environment and adhere to required safety policies
Maintaining flexibility and safely performing multiple duties and tasks under stressful, potentially hazardous conditions
REQUIREMENTS:
Work Experience
Mercury or Yamaha outboard certification is a plus
Must have knowledge of 12v electrical, rigging, and four stroke outboard engine diagnostics
Other Requirements
Must be willing to travel locally (via company vehicle) within North Shore, Greater Boston, South Shore and Cape Cod to service vessels at Freedom Boat Club locations
Be able to operate machinery efficiently, effectively and demonstrate safe handling of vessels, vehicles and trailers. This will include hauling, launching, and docking of vessels of up to 35 feet in length
Must be a team player
Ability to work productively with minimal supervision
Ability to operate computer, use/learn diagnostic and fleet management software
Ability to ascend and descend a ladder, lift 50 pounds and work in all weather conditions
Ability to work in confined spaces
Must be organized and detail-oriented
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals
Currently maintains or is able to secure a Department of Transportation Commercial Driver Medical Certification within 30 days of hire
Forklift operation experience a plus but not required
High School degree or equivalent
Valid driver's license and clean driving record for the past 24 months
