Maintenance Technician

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

Pay: $24 - $30/hour based on experience

Shift: 1st shift

Summary:

Provide mechanical / electrical support to the plant.  Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Include the following but not unlimited too as other duties may be assigned.
• Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
• Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
• Dismantle defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
• Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
• Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
• Lay out, assembles, installs, and maintains equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
• Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
• Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment.
• Assists in production by learning the different jobs and steps into production when maintenance is not required.
• Assists in ensuring all equipment preventative maintenance is done and documented. 

Education, Experience and Skills Required for the Job Are:

• Education / Experience High School Diploma or equivalent GED; three or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have experience in hydraulic, HVAC, welding, electrical, plumbing and mechanically incline.
• Language Skills Must have the ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals and maintenance instructions. Bilingual in English and Spanish is desired but not necessary.
• Mathematical Skills Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
• Interpersonal Skills Must be able to work as part of a team.
• Physical Demands While performing maintenance associate duties must be able to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. Must regularly lift
• and/or move 50 pounds throughout shift. Will be required to work around flour, nuts and other bakery ingredients.
• May be required to work overtime as scheduled. Must be available by phone (or cell) for emergency situations and break downs of equipment.
• Be able to react to a fire by lifting a fire extinguisher weighing 10 pounds and moving it to the fire area;
• Specific visual requirements for this job close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
