Description
The Lead Pharmacy Technician plays an essential role in maintaining a pharmacy’s efficiency, accuracy, and compliance by overseeing both technician training and scheduling. Their leadership ensures that pharmacy technicians are properly certified, well-trained, and effectively scheduled to meet operational demands and patient needs. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with advanced knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations, as well as strong organizational and communication skills.
Education
HS Diploma or equivalent required
Licensure/ Certification
Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
National Certification preferred
Experience
Relevant experience leading a pharmacy technician training program
Experience with use of office software computer applications and keyboarding required.
Essential Job Duties:
Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive training program for new and existing inpatient pharmacy technicians that achieve the requirements in Virginia statute.
Actively participate in the recruitment process; coordinates and performs interviews for potential candidates; provides input into candidate selection.
Assist the Director of Pharmacy with the development, implementation, and maintenance of a Pharmacy Technician Career Ladder.
Educate and monitor technician progress. Provide hands-on guidance to improve their accuracy and efficiency.
Create and maintain technician work schedules to ensure adequate staffing. Adjust schedules based on pharmacy workload, peak hours, and technician availability. Monitor shift coverage and proactively address scheduling conflicts.
Coordinate continuing education opportunities to keep staff updated on industry changes.
Foster a positive and productive work environment. Develops the team; encourages and facilitates an environment of excellence, professionalism, and teamwork within the Pharmacy Department.
Collaborate with pharmacy leadership to optimize department workflow efficiency. Assist in the development, implementation, and review of departmental operating policies and procedures.
Provide positive and effective interaction with internal and external customers including but not limited to other facility leaders, patients and their families, vendors, prospective employees, schools and universities, regulatory/accrediting agencies, and professional associations.
Perform other functions as determined by the Director of Pharmacy Services or their supervisor
