This position will focus on leading the team in development practices, operational standards, and platform evolution while driving rapid, iterative software development using Large Language Models.The Lead Engineer on the AI Incubation team is a hands-on development position. You will be considered one of the strongest developers on the team, with deep technical knowledge and the ability to help other team members solve complex technical issues. You will provide design and architecture guidance for applications built from the ground up, working closely with architects, technologists, and business partners to define and align with Schwab’s organizational, platform, and technology strategies. You will mentor engineers on platform and application solutions, focusing on building strong technology practices.You have a bias for action, are good at making progress, and can execute even with complex technical challenges. You are constantly learning about technological advances and bringing this knowledge to the team to foster innovation and adoption of best practices. This is an opportunity to join a cutting-edge team known for products and platforms used across multiple Schwab organizations.What you haveRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related field.7+ years of experience as a hands-on senior engineer across multiple agile teams in startups and large organizations.4+ years of technical leadership in delivering enterprise applications, platforms, and services.Experience building complex products from scratch and deploying them in production.Strong fundamentals in computer science and experience across different parts of the tech stack.Hands-on knowledge of containers, operationalizing them in the cloud with infrastructure as code, and experience with cloud-native services.Experience working with large datasets and complex data pipelines.Experience building applications utilizing AI models to deliver business value.Experience with LLMs and deploying LLM-powered applications is a significant plus.Proficiency in Python, Java, and Angular is preferred but not required.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree or higher in Computer Science or related field.Focus on quality, with experience writing tests at all levels.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Experience mentoring engineers and providing feedback for growth.Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.Ability to solve complex problems with ambiguous data in distributed systems.Deep business domain knowledge related to previous products.Experience leading large projects and developing engineering leaders.Curiosity about new technologies and processes, with proactive knowledge sharing.
