What would this role do?
The Authorizations Lead is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end authorization process to ensure accurate timely, and efficient management of client authorizations across all funders. The Authorizations Lead acts as the primary point of contact for escalations, supports the team in meeting productivity and quality standards, and collaborates with internal departments, local offices, and payors to ensure process consistency and drive improved outcomes.
Role Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of the authorization team and process.
Monitor workload distribution and ensure compliance with established workflows and timelines.
Serve as subject matter expert on all aspects of authorization requirements, processes, and systems.
Act as the escalation point for complex, delayed, or problematic authorization cases.
Manage and maintain tools supporting the authorization function.
Oversee the submission of reauthorization requests to payors ensuring appropriate documentation per funder guidelines.
Monitor and follow up on pending authorizations, escalate when necessary.
Stay up to date on funder requirements and communicate changes to relevant teams.
Serve as the primary contact for Operations leadership regarding authorization-related inquiries.
Collaborate with offices to address overdue reports and documentation needs.
Communicate regularly with payors to resolve outstanding items and ensure receipt of approvals.
Oversee shared mailboxes and timely distribution of incoming authorization related documents.
Sort, disseminate, and process mail related to authorizations to ensure timely processing.
Must Haves
High School Diploma or GED (minimum).
Minimum of 1 year experience with processing authorizations.
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with insurance companies, regional centers, or other payors.
Minimum of 1 year experience in Customer Service.
Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent clinical and leadership skills.
Fluency with all Microsoft Office programs.
Self-motivated, responsible, honest, articulate, excellent time management skills, and skills to work independently.
Professional demeanor, well-organized, and attention to detail.
Demonstrate effective communication skills to interact with Clients, family members, and Payors.
