Your Role Gensler’s San Francisco office is looking for a Senior-Level Laboratory Planner with 10+ years of experience. You will have expertise in pre-design, programming, laboratory planning, feasibility studies, and detailed lab design and documentation. You will lead complex lab projects including research, clinical labs, vivaria, and other technical labs. With excellent client relationship skills and an innovative portfolio, you will collaborate regionally and globally within Gensler, contribute to sustainability-driven projects, and mentor future life science design professionals.
What You Will Do
Work directly with clients, scientists, and end-users to develop laboratory strategies, program documents, data sheets, and workflow diagrams, for new and renovated labs.
Support creative, sustainable lab planning and technical design decisions that push beyond traditional approaches, especially in private industry.
Oversee technical lab documentation and quality control, revising plans and details as needed.
Produce detailed lab plans, coordinate with MEP and other consultants, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory codes.
Manage documentation in line with project checklists, Gensler standards, and QA/QC protocols.
Handle day-to-day project tasks from planning through construction administration.
Collaborate with the architectural team to create a seamless user experience.
Your Qualifications
Bachelor’s or higher in Architecture with 10+ years of experience.
Proficiency in Revit required.
Knowledge of laboratory programming, design impact, MEP systems, and casework.
Experience working with senior management, scientists, lab managers, and stakeholders to define requirements.
Technical knowledge to guide lab space development and equipment considerations.
Ability to develop process flows and adjacencies for research and lab spaces.
LEED accreditation preferred, with a commitment to sustainable design.
Leadership skills including client management and mentoring.
Strong presentation and communication skills.
Effective collaboration and team motivation abilities.
Salary range is approximately $125,000–$160,000 plus bonuses and benefits, depending on experience.
