This position is for highly skilled workers in the instrumentation/electrical craft who perform at or above a CCST/EPRI level II or equivalent. The role involves comprehensive responsibilities including the removal, repair, installation, troubleshooting, and diagnosis of process instrumentation and electrical systems. The technician will work under minimal supervision where the primary objective is safe production, with opportunities to mentor or train other instrumentation/electrical employees. This position focuses on process optimization through advanced technical skills and requires expertise in industrial automation, instrumentation, and electrical systems in a manufacturing plant environment operating 24/7/365.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform removal, repair, installation, troubleshooting and diagnosis of process instrumentation and electrical systems for process optimization
Complete safe routine and non-routine calibrations and repairs
Execute preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of pneumatic instruments, control valves, pressure, flow, level, temperature, weigh scales and analytical instrumentation
Maintain and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers, transmitter and control valve setup and diagnosis, electrical testing and loop checking
Perform installations and renovations compliant with regulatory agency standards
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and work area instructions
Participate in safety and environmental activities
Use plant and equipment correctly at all times
Mentor or train other technicians and electrical workers
Perform other duties as required
Required Experience/Skills
Completion of an approved certified program for instrumentation/control system, electronics, & electrical, OR minimum of four (4) years experience in industrial instrumentation/electrical repair and maintenance, OR Associates degree or Trade School Certification in the related field and two (2) years experience performing maintenance and repair of industrial automation, instrumentation, and electrical systems
Must have completed academic and practical competencies required and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude
Ability to pass a written assessment based on skills/abilities, academic knowledge, and safety
Strong knowledge in the maintenance and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers, transmitter and control valve setup and diagnosis, electrical testing and loop checking
Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

Education

Pay & Benefits Summary
Estimated pay range: $31.00 - $42.50/hour (base salary, does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions)
$50 per-shift stipend available to employees assigned to specific positions within the Smelter Electrical and E/I Maintenance departments which meet program guidelines
