Industrial Sewing Machine Operator

$17.00/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Overtime & weekend flexibility required)
JOB SUMMARY:
The Industrial Sewing Machine Operator I, under the leadership of the designated manager and /or supervisor, will support the process to satisfy new and current customer demands for vehicle accessories. The Industrial Sewing Machine Operator 1) is responsible for surging pre-cut patterns and able to sew pieces together to form complete parts/mats 2) operate an industrial sewing/serging machine in a manufacturing environment 3) measuring and cutting canvas to specs 4) operate production equipment, handheld hardware and tools as necessary 5) responsible for using a tape measure 6) responsible for handling, positioning and moving materials through the sewing and other manufacturing operations 7) supports other manufacturing activities as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Timely, consistent and predictable attendance
· Work safely; comply with all safety rules, maintain a clean, neat, and safe work area; use shop equipment and tools safely; and wear required personal protective equipment. Report all accidents immediately.
· Meet and exceed productivity and quality requirements
· Comply with all policy, procedures, job instructions, and safety rules
· Maintain and properly safeguard all shop tools and equipment
· Guide parts under needle following edges seam, and guides on machine bed or markings on part
· Industrial sewing including top stitching
· Assist the team leader with training
· Sew to Production Sample, follow Product Guides, observe stitching to detect defects
· Cut and organize sewing supplies such as binding, webbing, cord, tape, or thread according to specific specifications or color of material as stated on Work Order
· Maintain raw material, cut excess thread or material
· Inspect product during production
· Strong attention to details both visually and written.
· Check completed work to ensure that it meets quality standards
· Carries out responsibilities in accordance with GST/ASG policies
· Responsibly receive, transmit, and handle consumer and customer data per applicable policies and procedures.
· Review and follow data privacy practices, policies, and guidelines.
· Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus three to five years of industrial sewing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience..
· Must have Serger sewing machine experience: Minimum 3 year (Required)
· Sewing/Upholstering experience preferred
· Attention to detail
· Demonstrate mechanical skills
· Must be able to read a tape measure
· Demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment
· Able to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets
· Able to read, understand and comply with assigned area’s job instructions
· Able to communicate effectively – orally and/or in writing
· Understand basic shop productivity measurements
· Willing to cross train in other areas as needed
· Demonstrates the ability to carry out responsibilities in accordance with GST policies, TMNA operating standards, and applicable federal and state laws
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend written and oral English instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively discuss information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
· Has valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The associate will be frequently required to balance; crouch, or crawl; reach over-head and taste or smell. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential responsibilities of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
