JOB TITLE : School Counselor REPORTS TO : Principal
Be a LEADer. Counsel and support our students’ social and emotional needs with LEAD Public Schools.
School counselors with LEAD Public Schools play a large role in establishing a positive school culture while supporting the diverse needs of our students within the school. Counselors work as mediators for student issues and help prevent potential future behavioral, emotional, and educational needs by partnering with teachers, deans, assistant principals, and school directors to develop solutions that are in our students’ best interests.
Major Performance Responsibilities and Duties:
Counseling:
Coordinate and lead school-wide efforts to implement and monitor RTI and S-Team processes
Coordinating and consulting with appropriate grade level teams, teachers, and parents/guardians to address and support student issues
Providing direct services to students and families through individual and group support
Providing crisis counseling and consultation to students and adults as needed
Conducting in-service trainings on pertinent topics to support the abilities of our teachers and staff
Conducting home visits as necessary
Option to supervise counseling interns
Staying up-to-date with state and national trends and policies as they relate to counseling
Implement a school-wide student needs assessment and analyze responses to plan data-driven interventions that incorporate all school stake holders.
Performing other job related duties as assigned
School Culture:
Work directly with student behavior teams to create initiatives and strategies
Support and provided insight into the setting of the vision and associated goals for school culture
Build buy-in from teachers, staff, and students while building positive culture, and model positive relationships with all members of the school community
Develop positive school spirit by supporting the planning and executing of Student-Led Conferences, College Trips, Spirit Week, awards ceremonies, and other events
Build positive relationships with students and support teachers in their development of student relationships both in and out of the classroom
Collaborate with the Family Engagement Coordinator to support family involvement in student learning and support
Student Support
Providing supporting information for school based teams in monitoring trends based on student data (e.g. GPA, attendance, behavior).
Provide support to help refine, and implement school-wide behavior systems (e.g. merit and demerit/mark system, detention/mark time, suspensions).
Lead analysis of and develop teachers’ ability to analyze student data to identify strategies that will help students improve behavior.
Help teachers meet the social and emotional needs of students within the school
Data Analysis
Analyze student support data to determine if there are any trends within the school environment
QUALIFICATIONS :
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years-experience working within a school based environment (K-12 setting, preferably with urban schools)
Previous experience leading RTI and S-Team processes in a school setting is preferred

EDUCATION
Master’s degree in school counseling, passed praxis exams, and school counselor licensure is preferred
Master’s degree in counseling/social work accepted if candidate has experience working in a K-12 environment
