Essential Job Summary: We are looking for skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanics to join our team. You will perform inspections, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on various heavy equipment such as yellow iron machinery, diesel trucks, and engines. This role requires not only a strong understanding of maintenance practices but also the ability to operate the machinery being serviced. You may occasionally be required to assist with emergency breakdowns. Essential Job Functions: Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on heavy equipment, including yellow iron machinery, tractor trailers, and diesel trucks. Conduct repairs and preventative maintenance as assigned. Estimate time and materials needed for repairs, and order parts as necessary. Perform safety checks on all vehicles. Complete required documentation using fleet maintenance software to track repairs, parts used, and time spent. Address repairs noted on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. Maintain a clean and safe workspace in accordance with safety protocols and OSHA standards. Collaborate with fellow mechanics on different shifts to ensure seamless operations. Assist senior technicians with project work when necessary. Requirements and Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required; CDL is a plus. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Experience in the sanitation or construction industries is a plus. Familiarity with computer diagnostic tools as a diesel technician is advantageous. Experience troubleshooting and repairing DPF systems and using diagnostic software including Premium Tech Tool (Mack), Allison transmission, Cummins, CAT, Peterbilt, and Paccar is preferred. Knowledge of applicable DOT and OSHA standards and regulations is crucial. Must possess strong English communication skills for interacting with colleagues, drivers, and dispatch; able to document reports accurately. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 50 pounds, with frequent squatting and standing. Must provide own tools. Work Environment: We continually invest in equipment, with many trucks being less than 2 years old. This role will primarily be based at our Transfer Station located at E. 132nd St in the Bronx, NY, with occasional travel to pick up parts and assist with emergency breakdowns as needed. The work environment may involve hazards due to moving parts and machinery; maintaining situational awareness is essential. Entry into the transfer station loading/dumping area is only required during breakdowns. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided.
