Description: Position Description:
We are seeking an experienced and dependable Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our construction operations team. This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy equipment used in construction projects, including dozers, excavators, backhoes, telehandlers, and other diesel-powered and hydraulic machinery.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and a solid understanding of industry safety standards.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, undercarriages, braking systems, and electrical components.
Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections on heavy equipment to reduce downtime.
Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools to identify mechanical problems and determine the best repair methods.
Use specialized tools, equipment, and computerized diagnostic software to service machinery.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts used.
Coordinate with fleet manager, supervisors and operators regarding equipment performance issues.
Operate heavy equipment to test repairs and ensure proper functionality.
Ensure work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards.
Be available for occasional after-hours emergency repairs and weekend callouts as needed to support operations.
Requirements: Qualifications:
Experience working on brands such as Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, or similar.
Welding and fabrication experience a plus.
CDL or ability to operate heavy equipment safely for testing and relocation.
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification in diesel or heavy equipment repair preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic in a construction or industrial setting.
Proficient in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic and diesel systems.
Must have own tools appropriate for heavy equipment repair.
Valid driver's license with insurable driving record (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain).
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., bend, kneel, climb, and work in varying field conditions.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Duties are performed throughout the inside and outside of the building(s). Employee is exposed to dirt, dust, heat, cold, noise and vibration, fumes and odors, wetness, and humidity, and sometimes darkness. Employee is required to stand, walk, kneel, squat, crawl, bend, and twist. Employee may have to climb and/or lift up to and over 80 pounds frequently. Visual requirements are constant. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Due to the nature of the environment, employee is exposed to potential mechanical, chemical, electrical and fire hazards on a regular basis.
