Kennebec Behavioral Health, established in 1960 to provide comprehensive behavioral health services and named one of the Best Places to Work in Maine for the last four (4) consecutive years and recently recognized as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) is currently seeking a motivated and compassionate individual to be our next GEAR Regional Parent Support Coordinator. This is a full-time position and will cover *Androscoggin, Cumberland, Lincoln, Oxford, Sagadahoc and York* counties. Candidates *MUST* live in one of those counties (in Maine).

*What is GEAR?* The G.E.A.R. Parent Network, a program of Kennebec Behavioral Health, is the place where *G*aining *E*mpowerment *A*llows *R*esults. G.E.A.R. is run by parents for parents who have kids ages 0-21 with emotional and behavioral health concerns. No parent should suffer alone and in silence when a child is struggling with his or her mental health. Parenting can be challenging under the best of circumstances. But when a child, teenager, or young adult struggle with emotional, mental or behavioral health problems, parenting can be overwhelming and isolating. We provide parents and caregivers who are concerned about their children’s mental health with an opportunity to find and support each other in a confidential and safe space.
A GEAR Regional Parent Support Coordinator will provide information, education, mentoring and emotional support and sharing of personal lived experience to parents or caregivers of children with SED/emotional and behavioral health needs via phone, email, text, 1:1 meeting in community, support groups, workshops & 1:1 in-home support. Will also present educational workshops and organize/facilitate special events annually in assigned counties/region or per contractual requirements. Provide one on one parent peer support, coaching, mentoring and empowerment to 16 or more RAMP program families annually. In addition, the position will develop and nurture positive provider and community partnerships.
*Qualifications:* High school diploma or GED *AND *5+ years of lived experience. Obtaining national certification as a Family Peer Specialist *is required* within 2 years of the date of employment. Lived experience as a parent/caregiver of child with emotional or behavioral health needs with 5+ years of lived experience and in navigating the system of care on behalf of that child; experience or capability in facilitating groups, ability to work and accept telephone calls from home. Must be able to work some evenings and occasional weekend. A valid driver’s license with reliable transportation and automobile insurance is also required. There is computer work associated with this position, so the applicant must have home internet service and technical skills.
