We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead and grow our team of systems engineers in San Francisco. In this role you will lead a growing team of 10 software engineers working on low-level systems in Bun's open-source runtime, and paid products. At Bun, we take ownership over the entire software stack, making this an exceptional place to grow technical depth. You'll be mentoring engineers who work on both systems engineering like JavaScript runtimes and parsers, and product engineering like JavaScript APIs, frontend applications, and documentation.

Responsibilities Lead and grow a team of systems engineers building Bun's runtime and tooling Provide technical leadership for complex systems written in C/C++ and Zig Unblock engineers by digging into technical issues and occasionally contributing code Establish processes to improve team productivity and code quality Mentor junior engineers and help them develop technical skills Set high standards for technical excellence and foster a culture of craftsmanship Requirements 3+ years experience managing engineering teams. Experience implementing large codebases with manual memory management reliably Strong technical background in systems languages like C, C++, Zig, or Rust Ability to balance technical leadership with people management Ability to triage and debug complex technical issues, to inform issue ownership Understanding of UNIX systems, networking, or JavaScript runtimes This is an on-site role at our office in San Francisco
