Position Title: Engineer – Power Supply Planning Reports to: Manager, Power Supply Planning Location: Atlanta, GA (*On-site ) * Incumbent must work in office in Atlanta four (4) days per week and may work remotely one (1) day per week with manager approval* Summary: The successful candidate must be self-motivated, results-oriented and be able to work under the supervision of Principal Engineers to perform generation planning studies using production costing and capacity expansion software, and to be able to balance multiple tasks and prioritize work and to carry out various job functions and duties to serve MEAG’s Participants. Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Under limited supervision, prepare studies and reports and recommend generation facility changes, improvements, and additions. Under limited supervision, develop and maintain databases relating to current and future load forecasts, generation performance, operating costs, and installation costs as necessary to conduct analysis work. Prepare long-term load and price forecasts as needed for power supply studies. Work jointly with other MEAG staff and with other utility companies through committee type work and normal communications to receive and provide data, information, and results of generation planning activities. May conduct studies jointly with other companies relating to cooperative generation plans. Operate computer programs or systems in order to analyze production costs, reliability or capacity expansion. Operate computer programs or systems to develop system and Participant energy and load forecasts. Develop spreadsheet, database, and other similar applications for the analysis and presentation of work assignments. Review similar work results by other utility companies or industry organizations as directed. Assist Principal and Senior Engineers to perform various studies upon request. Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university is required and up to five years of relevant experience. A combination of education and demonstrated related work may be substituted in lieu of a degree. Requires sound judgement and sufficient professional experience to assure a thorough knowledge of electric utility operations.
