Summary:
The patient will be cared for in a safe and efficient manner. The Endoscopy Tech will be an experienced and knowledgeable individual trained in the area of endoscopy. The Endoscopy Tech participates as a member of the Endoscopy team under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. Specific patient populations to whom care is provided include adults, adolescents and children with gastrointestinal disorders/diseases.

Responsibilities:
1. Assists physician during Endoscopy procedures:a. Sets up procedure room, equipment, instruments and supplies according to established policy and procedure.b. Assists in preparation of the patient for Endoscopy procedures.c. Assists and anticipates the needs of the physician regarding equipment and supplies according to techniques, procedures, and special requirements.d. Maintains aseptic technique at all times.e. Assists the Registered Nurse with care of all specimens as directed by standard procedures.f. Stocks all rooms with equipment and supplies.2. Assists in care and handling of professional equipment and supplies:a. Demonstrates understanding of the need for special handling of specialized equipment.b. Demonstrates awareness of the need for cost containment.c. Maintains high level disinfecting and care of scope and equipment.d. Documents dates of changes of glutaraldehyde solutions.e. Disinfects with hospital-approved solution all rooms, stretchers/procedure tables in between patients.f. Utilizes the scope washer according to manufacturer guidelines and hospital protocol.g. Documents the cleaning/disinfection process of all Endoscopes on appropriate log.h. Stocks all rooms and checks out dates per department protocol.3. Demonstrates good interpersonal relationships:a. Extends courtesy and consideration for others in interpersonal relationship (i.e., team player).b. Demonstrates professional manner in work setting.c. Accepts and acts upon constructive criticism to upgrade abilities.d. Channels suggestions, criticisms and questions to appropriate persons.e. Seeks clarification when indicated.f. Demonstrates tact and understanding when dealing with patients and their families.4. Maintains employment records in accordance with hospital policy:a. Complies with attendance policies.b. Reports all accidents and injuries.c. Adheres to acceptable dress code.d. Shares in the responsibility of providing emergency surgical services 24 hours a day.5. Maintains and increases standards of performance and education:a. Attends department unit meetings.b. Participates in in-service classes.c. Shares knowledge with others.d. Demonstrates interest in professional literature and trends in Gastroenterology Nursing.e. Assists in the orientation of nursing personnel to non-nursing procedures/routines in the unit.f. Participates in Quality Assurance by assisting with data collection and submitting ideas for departmental improvement.g. Passes medical terminology course.6. Knowledgeable of all hospital safety related codes:a. Demonstrates knowledge in all hospital safety related codes and performs duties in drills and actual emergencies.b. Maintains clear corridors for easy evacuation during emergencies.c. Reviews the operation of emergency equipment.d. Reports unsafe conditions and incidents.e. Maintains basic CPR.7. Performs other duties as requested.8. Follows North Oaks Health System's Compliance Program and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.9. Displays competence in applying age specific criteria to all patients.
