Overview
The digital multi-factor authentication (MFA) architecture & design team is responsible for authentication strategies that support digital fraud prevention across Citi. This team partners closely with Fraud Policy, Fraud Requirements, Fraud Analytics, Technology, and Identity teams to design and validate authentication frameworks that reduce fraud losses, optimize customer access, and scale operational response. The team plays a critical role in shaping authentication rule design, supporting innovation in digital access controls, and leading enterprise collaboration on threat mitigation strategies related to authentication-based fraud.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary architecture and design SME for multi-factor authentication (MFA) within the digital fraud prevention domain, ensuring alignment with Citi’s risk appetite and authentication strategies.
Partner with Fraud Policy, Fraud Requirements, and Fraud Analytics teams to develop and maintain settings that support risk-based authentication, reduce fraud losses, and minimize customer impact.
Analyze fraud patterns across digital channels, contribute to investigation and response strategies, and ensure rule design adapts to emerging fraud threats.
Act as technical SME for authentication journeys, supporting stakeholders across Fraud Operations, Technology, and Business teams in understanding orchestration flows, decision outcomes, and data attributes influencing risk decisions.
Oversee the design and post-implementation validation of MFA rule changes, ensuring they meet fraud interdiction goals without unintended impacts on customer access or operational volumes.
Lead enhancements in fraud detection and error monitoring dashboards, focusing on automating API health monitoring and surfacing real-time alerts for investigation and resolution.
Support strategic fraud prevention initiatives by advising on technical feasibility, coordinating with business/CISO/tech partners, and ensuring policy consistency across platforms.
Promote cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing through developing backups, training, and mentoring on MFA architecture and fraud risk frameworks.
Maintain awareness of authentication-related fraud trends and provide insights in governance forums for mitigation planning.
Continuously evaluate process efficiencies and advocate for automation to improve response accuracy and reduce operational overhead.
Qualifications
This role requires strong collaboration with business, risk, and technology partners to support project-specific and strategic needs. The candidate should be able to define requirements, develop mitigation strategies, and contribute to authentication design and fraud risk architecture. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are essential.
6+ years experience in fraud risk, digital platforms, programming, or related domains.
Proven expertise in digital platforms, including mobile/online, API-based authentication, device and behavioral intelligence, and risk-based MFA strategies.
Familiarity with device fingerprinting, orchestration layers, and programming (C, C++, Java).
Strong analytical skills to interpret data and drive outcomes.
Ability to work independently, influence stakeholders, and lead initiatives.
Experience with Agile methodologies and project management.
Education
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred.
Experience with SQL, Data Warehousing, Tableau is preferred.

Salary Range: $103,920 - $155,880
