JOB DESCRIPTION:
A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under an occupational therapist's direction to conduct treatment procedures that aim to improve a patient’s day-to-day functioning despite impairment or limited mobility. This position is also responsible for preparing equipment for treatment and occasional clerical duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents (i.e., physical, cognitive, and socialization factors) in planning care delivery.
Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to care for and treat residents with the following needs: orthopedics, neuro diseases, and infectious diseases, if applicable.
Attends all mandatory in-services by employee’s anniversary date.
Acts appropriately under the direction of the Director of Occupational Therapy, and Rehabilitation Director.
Records clinical documentation according to the accepted regulatory, facility, and professional guidelines.
Establishes and instructs caregivers in resident-specific maintenance programs.
Records daily treatment charges according to facility policies.
Secures necessary durable medical equipment and adaptive equipment for residents to facilitate independence if approved by the Administrator.
Acts as a clinical preceptor, if necessary, for affiliated Occupational Therapy or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant schools.
Complies with state regulations and national standards as they apply to the practice of Occupational Therapy.
Provides weekly documentation for all residents on an active therapy program.
REQUIREMENTS:
New York State Occupational Therapy Assistant licensure
CPR certification
Ability to read and understand work assignments, as well as report verbally and provide written documentation as necessary

Able to perform tasks while upholding high standards of quality, cleanliness, and kindness
Qualities of responsibility, maturity, diplomacy, and ability to work well with residents and other staff members
