DescriptionCommunity Coordinator(Part time), On Site PositionJOB ANNOUNCEMENT Sacred Heart Community Service in San José, CA, is seeking a Community Coordinator to help build leadership capacity and empower families to make decisions that shape their lives and their communities. We're looking for a self-starter who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.The ideal candidate is deeply aligned with Sacred Heart's vision of a community united to ensure that every child and adult is free from poverty. They must share our belief that economic, political, and cultural systems have historically empowered some while marginalizing many-and be committed to advancing equity and self-determination for all.For more than 60 years, Sacred Heart has been a leading force in the fight against poverty in Santa Clara County, combining direct services with grassroots organizing and advocacy to drive systemic change.POSITION SUMMARY The Community Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing Sacred Heart's mission to drive systemic change through grassroots power-building. As a key member of the Power and Organizing (PAO) team, the Coordinator helps mobilize community-based responses during times of need and strengthens connections among internal programs, neighborhood leaders, and community partners.A central focus of this role is supporting the development and leadership of community members to operate family clinics-trusted, peer-led spaces where families receive support with completing critical documentation and are connected to services through a structured referral system. These clinics serve as a gateway for deeper community engagement, with the long-term goal of nurturing new leaders who join and contribute to PAO committees.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Recruitment and Base building (15-20%)•Recruits and refers leaders to membership through office visits and phone calls.•Works with teammates, managers, and leaders to meet PAO standards for leadership development, base building, one-on-one conversations, and campaign development.Training and Coordination (60-70%)Collaborate with team members and leaders to design and deliver an ongoing training curriculum that combines core organizing skills, advanced political analysis, and a commitment to anti-racism and anti-oppression.Train leaders in key organizing skills including: member recruitment, meeting facilitation, public speaking, and development of family plans.Support leaders in identifying and mentoring new leaders for participation in PAO committees.Partner with organizers and leaders across program areas to foster a culture of mutual support and transformative organizing that broadens traditional definitions of power.Co-develop project work plans that integrate leadership development, base-building, community care, and policy change aligned with PAO's core issue areas.Coordinate with internal staff and external partners to promote Family Plan Clinics.Cultivate partnerships with key community-based organizations and allies.General (10-20%)Support the planning and implementation of SHCS programs, events, trainings, and outreach efforts.Participate in and occasionally lead trainings to deepen organizing knowledge and develop community leadership.Perform other duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Strong commitment to our vision of a community united to ensure that every child and adult is free from poverty. Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, with a strong understanding of culturally competent and inclusive practices.1-2 years of experience in community organizing, public affairs, or grassroots leadership development.2-3 years of experience in outreach and recruitment, including door-to-door canvassing, house meetings, agency visits, and phone banking.Proven ability to inspire and motivate community members to take action.Bilingual in Spanish and English.Experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating grassroots leadership training, including curriculum development and tracking participation.Strong meeting planning and facilitation skills.Excellent verbal, written, and public presentation skills.Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.Strong work ethic with flexibility for occasional evenings, weekends, and long hours during campaign peaks.Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and CRM/database systems such as Salesforce.Must have a valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and the ability to travel throughout Santa Clara County for meetings, outreach, and events.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience in public policy advocacy and coalition building.Knowledge of community resources and local networks in Santa Clara County.REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The Community Coordinator reports to the Power and Organizing Director. COMPENSATION This is a non-exempt, hourly position that pays $27/hour.
