Chemistry Laboratory Student Assistant (Student)

Position Summary
The student assistant will help the Chemistry Lab Coordinator prep and clean up labs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Washing, cleaning, and putting up labware.
Cleaning and organizing various lab equipment.
Cleaning and waste disposal of lab surfaces, chemicals, and trash.
Preparation of solutions used in the various labs.
Preparation/clean-up of each lab, including dispensing glassware, solutions, equipment, and other lab needs.
Assist in chemical inventory and restocking of chemicals.
Retrieval of packages from the mailroom.
Cleaning/organizing chemical/lab supplies and stock.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses Completion of General Chemistry I and II Experience Chemistry/Biochemistry major students preferred.
Students who have demonstrated proper laboratory techniques or have taken a General Chemistry I and II course are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of a General Chemistry course or skills in proper laboratory techniques.
Able to use mathematical calculations in the preparation of solutions.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Able to use mathematical calculations (including basic algebra) in preparation of solutions.
Able to use lab equipment to perform acid/base titrations.
Ability to work independently in an efficient manner.
Ability to learn quickly and retain information.
Ability to wash and clean all labware as needed.
Ability to wipe and organize various lab equipment.
Cleaning and waste disposal of lab surfaces and trash.
Knowledge and ability to prepare solutions used in the various labs.
Able to listen effectively and follow orders.
Ability to be reliable and consistent in work activities.
Discretion in handling confidential matters while complying with FERPA regulations.
Ability to follow University and departmental procedures and policies.
The lab coordinator will aid in refreshing necessary math/chemical skills as needed.
