Certified Nurse Aide

Under the supervision of nursing staff and physicians, the Certified Nurse Aide assists with collecting patient medical information, preparing records, providing direct patient care as directed, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Skills:

  • Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in the State of Texas
  • Current CPR certification

Experience:

  • One year of experience in a medical setting preferred
  • Completion of a Nursing Assistant course

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Capable of bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to assist or support patients who may become weak or immobile

Job Responsibilities

I. Quality of Work:

  • Report important patient observations to licensed staff
  • Maintain patient dignity and avoid unnecessary exposure
  • Provide age-appropriate care using knowledge of growth and development
  • Monitor and interpret patient vital signs accurately
  • Follow HIPAA and confidentiality policies
  • Stay current with infection control standards and practices

II. Quantity of Work:

  • Collect lab samples and complete documentation for diagnostic testing
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of patient rooms
  • Assist nursing staff with patient care and admissions
  • Complete required documentation and support administrative tasks
  • Transport patients as needed
  • Document vital signs, chief complaints, medications, and medical history
  • Prioritize work tasks appropriately
  • Keep accurate records and report concerns to the nurse or physician
  • Attend required staff meetings
  • Maintain reliable attendance

III. Safety:

  • Participate in required safety training and education
  • Comply with Safety Committee directives
  • Follow all hospital safety policies
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately

IV. Financial Responsibility:

  • Submit paperwork for paid personal leave (PPL) as required
  • Use supplies and hospital resources responsibly

V. Guest Relations:

  • Participate in community and hospital outreach activities
  • Demonstrate a customer-focused, positive attitude
  • Introduce self and explain role to patients
  • Maintain professionalism in front of patients and visitors
  • Support team and department activities
  • Communicate respectfully with staff, medical teams, and leadership
  • Offer suggestions to improve department or job function
  • Identify opportunities to enhance patient experience and service delivery
