Job Summary:
Bundschu Company is home to a family of wine brands—Gundlach Bundschu, Abbot's Passage, and GUNBUN—and provides custom crush and bottling services to select clients. We are seeking a Cellar and Bottling Line Technician to join our Production team. This dynamic role leads bottling operations during scheduled bottling runs and supports daily cellar operations year-round.
This role works hands-on in the cellar, executing all aspects of wine production from harvest through final filtration. For 30-50 days a year of bottling, this role will be the Bottling Line Operator. In conjunction with the Cellar Master this role will be responsible for setup, operation, and troubleshooting of our bottling line to ensure efficiency, safety, and wine quality. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, is mechanically inclined, and wants to gain diverse experience across multiple areas of wine production.
Key Responsibilities:
Cellar Operations (Year-Round):
* Perform cellar tasks including but not limited to: wine movements, pump-overs, additions, racking, barrel work, and sanitation
* Support harvest operations such as crushing, pressing, fermentation management, and juice/wine transfers
* Operate and maintain pumps, filters, presses, and other winery equipment
* Follow all standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards
* Maintain clean and organized workspaces throughout the cellar and facility
Bottling Operations (Transition into Lead Role during Bottling Runs):
* Act as lead operator on bottling line, ensuring smooth setup, operation, sanitation, and breakdown
* Monitor line performance and adjust equipment as needed to minimize downtime and maintain quality standards
* Work with production team to prep materials and coordinate bottling logistics
* Train and guide temporary bottling crew members on best practices and safety protocols
* Maintain cleanliness and organization of bottling area and equipment
* Assist with bottling work orders, quality control checks, and recordkeeping
Authorities:
* Has authority to stop bottling line, using best judgement, for product that does not meet quality requirements.
* Report unsafe conditions or poor performance from team to the Cellar Master and Winemaker
* Lead bottling line, positioning staff where needed, and direct maintenance team and bottling assistant
* Plan and schedule labor needs for upcoming bottling according to bottling schedule
Qualifications & Experience:
* 3+ years winery production experience, with experience operating a bottling line highly
* Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot bottling and cellar equipment issues
* Ability to lift 50 lbs, work standing for long periods, and perform physical labor in varying temperatures
* Comfort with a fast-paced environment, tight schedules, and flexible priorities
* Team player with strong communication skills and attention to detail
* Forklift certification preferred
Work Environment & Schedule:
* Full-time, year-round role with benefits eligibility
* Workweek is generally four days, 10 hour shifts, Monday-Thursday, with possible overtime and weekend shifts required during bottling runs and harvest season
* Outdoor and indoor work in cellar and production spaces
