Being a Border Patrol Agent makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession.Typical assignments include:Detecting and questioning persons suspected of violating immigration and custom laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violationsPreventing, and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers of noncitizens at or near the borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions to include using infrared scopes during night operationsInterpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contrabandPerforming farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checksPatrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of Government assets such as vehicles, horses, vessels, watercrafts, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles for the accomplishment of the USBP Mission.Positions available after six months:Field Operations:Border Patrol Agent:Primarily responsible for patrolling and securing the border between ports of entry, including areas like deserts, mountains, and other remote locations.Air Interdiction Agent:Utilize aircraft to patrol and monitor borders, detect illegal activities, and support ground operations.Marine Interdiction Agent:Focus on securing waterways and coastlines, intercepting illegal crossings and smuggling attempts.K-9 Unit:Border Patrol Agents who work with trained dogs to detect drugs, people, and other contraband.Horse Patrol:Utilize horses for patrolling remote areas where vehicles are not practical.Off Road Vehicle Unit:Utilize off-road vehicles for patrolling areas with difficult terrain.Mobile Response Team (MRT):Respond to emergency situations and incidents along the border.Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue (BORSTAR):Specialize in search and rescue operations, providing medical assistance, and responding to emergencies in remote areas.Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC):Highly trained tactical unit that responds to high-risk situations and provides support to other Border Patrol units.
