This includes clinical research issues, patient privacy, regulatory issues, and advising on matters related to clinical faculty, and undergraduate and graduate medical education.
The successful candidate also may have responsibilities in a diverse range of additional practice areas common to higher education institutions, such as student life and academics, compliance, litigation strategy and oversight, labor and employment, governance, public procurement, public records, privacy, civil rights, research, accreditation, risk management, law enforcement, real estate, public finance, administrative law, threat assessment and student health and safety, hearings, policy and procedure development, and information technology matters.

Duties & Responsibilities Advise University administrators on clinical research undertaken at both of the University’s academic medical centers and affiliated teaching hospitals; undergraduate and graduate health sciences education, including teaching affiliations; matters related to clinical and research activities of faculty; college of medicine accreditation by the LCME; ACGME requirements for residency and fellowship programs; and HIPAA and its implementing regulations, including Privacy and Security Rules.
Work closely with other attorneys and the talented support team in the Office of the General Counsel to advise University administrators on research compliance and informed consent to participate in research issues, including human subjects protection and IRB matters; conflicts of interest and commitment; and externally-funded research including research grant preparation, implementation, and compliance.
Partner with the attorneys and support team in OGC – as well as University administrators, faculty, and staff – and interact with outside counsel, other governmental offices, University-affiliated organizations, and ABOR.
Develop and foster robust relationships with clients and outside counsel to support strong connections with OGC.

Minimum Qualifications from an ABA-accredited law school.
Admitted to practice law in the State of Arizona, in good standing, or be eligible and admitted to practice law in the State of Arizona within one year of employment.
A minimum of three years of substantial and progressively responsible legal experience practicing law.
Preferred Qualifications
Five years of substantial and progressively responsible legal experience practicing law.
Experience with academic medical centers, clinical healthcare operations, and health law.
Specific experience representing large research academic institutions, colleges, or universities.
Experience and knowledge of Arizona laws, rules, and regulations, including public procurement, public records, and public employment in Arizona.
