Overview The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Providence College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position beginning August 2026. The successful candidate must show evidence of potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching, the ability to establish a scholarly research program and enthusiasm for teaching foundational courses in sociology, especially Introductory Sociology and Sociological Theory. Areas of specialization are open; however, preference will be given to those who demonstrate the potential for excellence in sociological theory, especially those with expertise in Du Boisian sociology, intersectionality, and/or post-colonial thought. As our student body, and Sociology majors in particular, grow increasingly diverse, we have a strong preference for candidates who show a commitment to publicly engaged scholarship, student-centered pedagogical and mentoring practices, and supporting the success of students from historically marginalized economic, social, and cultural groups. The course load is 3-3 with the eligibility to apply for a one-semester pre-tenure research leave after the third year. Education and Experience Ph.D. in Sociology required and applicants must have Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment.
